My top 20 British Boxers of the 70s and 80s
Boxing is my favorite sport not because it is a violent sport, I look at it more as an artistic sport. Watching the classical boxer or the master boxer outclassing the slugger is always my favorites or watching 2 skilled master boxers having a great classical match with crisp accurate punches and great footwork and defense. The 70s and 80s were my favorite boxing eras. There were tons of class fighters all over the world mainly in the states and south America as well as Latino countries like Mexico, Puerto Rico, Panama etc. We are talking about dominant forces like Carlos Monzon, George Foreman, Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson and other greats. The amazing thing back in the 70s and 80s is that the fights could be watched for free. There was no box office pay per view. It was a great time for boxing. There were great fighters from the countries above but in England we had our own fighting heroes that were big worldwide and will never be forgotten in the British history of boxing. There were great memorable fights and some sad disheartening moments but each fighter will always be in the hearts of true fight fans. We will never forget the warrior spirit of Fighters like Johnny Owen or the touching moments of Barry McGuigans Father singing Danny boy in the ring also who can forget the memorable moments of Bruno's true fighting spirit challenging for that heavyweight title. He got there with his forth attempt but never gave up the hope and dream and never ducked any fighter. He will always be remembered as a true fighting spirit.
I will list my top 20 boxers of the 70s and 80s in any order below. These guys were all brave warriors that fought to the very top of their weight division or for some could have fought to the very top if no demons stood in there way. Once you read their Bio's you will see which fighters I mean.
Enjoy!
